STUDY REGARDING THE EXPOSURE TO THE NON-IONIZED RADIATIONS AND THE RISK FOR THE HUMAN HEALTH

The Institute for the Public Health, Bucureşti, România

OBJECTIVES

The evaluation of the exposure to the radio-frequency non-ionized electromagnetic radiations and microwaves of the personnel, in a military facility, endowed with telecommunications equipment, and of the personnel of a research laboratory, situated near the location of some telecommunications equipment belonging to a military facility.

METHODOLOGY

The measurements for the determination of the power density of the electromagnetic field were made with two type of devices: ”Narda Model 8718” from the Romanian Army Research Institute, and a spectrum analyzer type Tektronix 2710 with annexes, which belongs to the General Direction for Radio Communication of Romania.

The results of the measurements were construed according to the general regulations for the work safety, which are still in force today.

There were used questionnaires for the evaluation of the possible symptoms as result of the exposure to the electromagnetic fields, for picking of data regarding the life style, pathological personal and heredo-collateral antecedents.

The interrogated personnel include 35 subjects, in the first lot, and the personnel that work in the research laboratory form the second lot. It was realized the morbidity and mortality analyze based upon the medical records.

RESULTS

For the frequency domain 10 - 400 MHz, in both cases, was over-passed the maximum limit for exposure, according to the regulations.

In the lot no. 1 were find: 11.43% with cardiovascular diseases, 5.71% lumbar pains, 2.86% chronically head pains.

Invoked Symptoms: 65.71% head pains, 45.71% somnolence, 28.57% hair falling.

The lot no. 2: 76,92 % presents different maladies: 34,62 % endocrine maladies, 15.38 % cardiovascular maladies, 3.84 % pre-neoplazic maladies, 3.84 % neoplazic maladies, 19.23 % other maladies.

Invoked Symptoms: disturbance of the sleeping 38.46 %, somnolence 26.92 %, impatience 23.08 %.

The analyze of the morbidity resulted after the reading of the medical records revealed, that inside the facility, were the following groups of maladies: nervous system maladies 32.43 %, cardiovascular maladies: 29.73 %, gastrointestinal and hepatic malady: 21.62 %, dermatological maladies: 8.11 % diabetes: 5.41 %, TBC secondary 5.41 %, colon tumor: one subject dead.

The analyze of the mortality revealed that starting with the year 1984, 46 death cases, reported to approximately 300 persons, as follows: 41.30 % by cardiovascular maladies and the rest of 58.69 % by cancer.

Within the research laboratory, starting also with the year 1984, reported to a smaller number of employees (26 persons), were find 11 cases of death: 3 (27.27 %) by major cardiovascular accidents, and the rest of 8 (72.72 %) by cancer.

In the spring of the year 1999, a man, 55 years old, get pensioned about one year, had the diagnostic of mamelon cancer.

The specialty literature considers that, if in conditions of exposures to the electromagnetic radiation, a man has the diagnostic of mamelon cancer, this happened because of the exposure to the field.

CONCLUSIONS

The non-ionized electromagnetic radiations are initiator of the oncogenic process, neoplazic maladies that appear after few years of exposure.
